Lanzarote: 6-Day Adventure in the Canary Islands
In June 2023, I spent six incredible days exploring Lanzarote, a volcanic gem in the Canary Islands. This trip was extra special as I visited friends who had recently moved there, giving me a chance to explore the island like a local.
If you’re planning a visit, renting a car is highly recommended - you can comfortably drive around the whole island and explore at your own pace. Lanzarote’s unique landscape is volcanic, peaceful, and serene, though it can get quite windy in certain areas.
I stayed in a spacious Airbnb tucked away from the town. It was perfect. It had a swimming pool, BBQ area, and game room, which is ideal for couples, families, or friends looking for a relaxing base.
When I went: June 2023
Duration: 6 days (including flights)
Weather: Warm, sunny, and breezy - perfect for T-shirts and shorts, though some areas get windy. Great for sunbathing, swimming, and outdoor activities.
Tip: Pack a light jacket for cooler evenings and walking shoes for exploring.
Top experiences & Must-do activities in Lanzarote
1. Aloe Plus Lanzarote
Lanzarote is famous for its aloe vera, and a visit to Aloe Plus Lanzarote is a must. I picked up a small aloe plant, and over two years later, it’s still alive - my only successful plant parent moment!
2. Surfing Lessons with Red Star Surf 🏄♀️
I took beginner surfing lessons at Red Star Surf, and it was one of the highlights of my trip! We started with a 4-hour session, beginning with beach basics before heading into the water. The instructors were fantastic, splitting us into small groups of 3–4 for plenty of personal attention. For anyone wanting to try surfing, this is an absolute must.
The instructors were filming us, and we were reviewing our progress at the end of the lesson.
3. Diving at Museo Atlántico 🤿
This was a bucket-list experience - diving at Europe’s only underwater museum! Located off Playa Blanca, the Museo Atlántico combines art, marine conservation, and adventure.
Even as a complete beginner, I was able to dive thanks to a supervised introductory session. Each instructor handled just two divers, ensuring safety and guidance. Descending 12 meters underwater among the sculptures was surreal and unforgettable.

If you love gin and cocktails, La Casita Del Gin is the place to be. With over 100 varieties of gin, plus classic cocktails, wines, and beers, this cosy spot is perfect for a date night or catching up with friends.
5. Must-Try Local Flavours 🥘
· Barraquito → A famous Canarian layered coffee drink - sweet, creamy, and unforgettable.
· Lapas → A traditional marine mollusc dish - not my favourite, but a true Lanzarote delicacy worth trying at least once.
6. Wineries in Volcanic Landscapes 🍷
Lanzarote’s volcanic soil makes for a unique wine-growing experience. I visited Bodegas Rubicón, one of the most scenic wineries on the island, and learned how vines thrive in the harsh terrain.
7. Cueva de Los Verdes
An absolute must-visit! The Cueva de Los Verdes is part of an 8 km volcanic tunnel formed over 23,000 years ago during the Corona Volcano eruption. Go early in the morning to avoid crowds and make the most of this incredible natural wonder.
