Athens, Greece: A 4-Day City Escape

Athens had been on my list for years, and in February 2023, I made it happen.

This was a quick but unforgettable 4-day city break to one of Europe’s most historic cities. I stayed at Electra Palace Athens, a beautifully central hotel that made it easy to get around and tick off everything I wanted to see.

  • When I went: February 2023

  • Duration: 4 days (including flights)

  • Weather: Warm and sunny — perfect T-shirt and jeans weather

Tip: Pack a light jacket and maybe a scarf for cooler evenings. Comfortable walking shoes are essential if you plan to explore the historic sites on foot.

Exploring the Heart of Athens 🏛️

The highlight of my trip was, of course, visiting the Acropolis of Athens and the Parthenon - both incredible reminders of Greece’s ancient history. I joined a free guided city tour (you just leave a tip at the end), which was one of the best decisions I made.

The guide was brilliant - we explored historic monuments, wandered through vibrant local markets, and even caught the changing of the guards ceremony, which was amazing to watch. Along the way, he recommended a few great food spots, and one of them became a firm favourite: Geros Tou Moria Restaurant. If you want traditional Greek dishes, live music, and warm hospitality at great prices - this is the place.

Day Trip to Corinth & Wine Tasting 🍷

One of the days, I rented a car and drove to Corinth for a little change of scenery and more history. On the way, I found a beautiful winery, Bairaktaris, which offered a guided tour and wine tasting. The local wines were delicious, and the views were stunning.

Food & Drinks You Can’t Miss 🥙

Athens is a dream for food lovers, and I made it my mission to try as many local spots as possible:

Final Thoughts ✨

Athens is a city where history meets modern charm. Every corner tells a story - from ancient ruins to lively markets, from street food stalls to rooftop bars. There’s a lot of walking, but every step is worth it.

Four days were just enough to get a taste of Athens, but it’s left me wanting to come back and explore more of Greece - maybe next time, the islands. 🌿🏛️
