Discovering Egypt: Ancient Wonders, Golden Sunsets, and Lessons in Patience
Egypt had always been one of those dream destinations I imagined visiting since childhood - the land of pharaohs, gods, and golden tombs. What I didn’t expect was how alive it would feel. The air buzzed with history and energy, blending the ancient with the everyday.
When I went: September 2024
Duration: 8 days (including flights)
Weather: Warm and sunny during the day (T-shirt weather), slightly cooler in the evenings - bring a light jacket for comfort.
Tip: Carry cash for tips, bottled water, and be patient - Egypt moves at its own pace!

First impressions - arriving in Hurghada
My journey began in Hurghada, where I stayed at an all-inclusive resort overlooking the Red Sea. The first evening felt like stepping into a dream - the warmth of the air, the glow of sunset, and the rhythm of the waves set the perfect start for a week that would soon turn into one of the most fascinating adventures I’ve had.

From Hurghada to Luxor - a morning above the Nile
An evening bus took me from Hurghada to Luxor, where I checked into the quiet Farida Habu Palace Hotel. Only a few hours later, I was wide awake again for my hot-air balloon ride.
As the sun rose, the Valley of the Kings, palm groves, and the Nile glowed beneath the balloon - a breathtaking scene that made the early start worth every yawn. Later that morning, I visited the Valley of the Kings, wandering through richly decorated tombs that bring ancient Egypt vividly to life.
It was also my first taste of how busy Egypt can be. The country thrives on tourism, and visitors should expect a bit of bargaining and plenty of enthusiasm from locals offering their services. A smile, polite “no,” and patience go a long way here.

Back to Hurghada - a moment to unwind
After a long day in Luxor, returning to Hurghada felt like a quiet exhale. I spent the next couple of days enjoying the resort - swimming in the Red Sea, tasting local dishes, and watching the sunset melt into the horizon. It was the perfect balance between adventure and rest.
Cairo and the Pyramids - the heart of history
A night bus brought me to Cairo, followed by a drive to Giza. Seeing the Pyramids for the first time was surreal - the scale, the heat, and the hum of excitement all around. Exploring independently takes confidence, but it’s entirely possible with a bit of planning. Agree on prices in advance, bring water, and take your time to appreciate the atmosphere once the initial crowds pass.
The Pyramids of Giza
Later that evening, I took a felucca sunset sail on the Nile. As the city lights reflected on the water, I finally felt the calm that Egypt so often hides behind its energy. It was a perfect close to an unforgettable day.

Final thoughts
Egypt is a destination of contrast - ancient grandeur, passionate people, and moments that challenge and inspire in equal measure.
It’s a place that rewards curiosity, preparation, and openness. Bring your sense of wonder, but also your patience - things move at their own rhythm here. Despite the chaos and intensity, there’s something truly special about standing where civilisation began..
